Overview
Manipal University places great value on research. It ranks 600 globally and 15th in the country for research output and publications.
The university currently holds a global rank of 1118 on SCImago Institution Rankings (SIR), published by SCImago Research Group, Spain. With a national ranking of 19, Manipal University has always outdone their previous rankings.
India’s leading institutions – Kasturba Medical College (KMC) and Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) are a part of Manipal University. These colleges have consistently been ranked in the list of India’s top 10 institutions for providing superior grade of education in medical and engineering fields.
KMC has a Scopus h-index of 43, which is high compared to other Indian universities as per the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Science (MCOPS) Manipal has a Scopus h-index of 36.
MIT has interdisciplinary labs under the Innovation Centre, where there are research programs in emerging areas such as
- Nanotechnology
- Ad hoc wireless networks
- Nuclear Engineering
- VLSI Design and
- Pattern Recognition
There is also a collaborative project with Philips in sustainable and eco-friendly technology and tele- medicine. The institution has a Scopus h-index of 27 currently.
Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences has research collaborations with R&D centres all over the country. For instance, it has ongoing programs at Novel Drug Delivery Systems, Formulation Development and Preclinical Screening of Drug candidates. The TIFAC CORE program in Pharmacogenomics envisages the development of personalised medicine
The Manipal Life Science Centre (MLSC) has a dedicated research team and undertakes research projects funded by DBT, DST etc. MLSC is also linked to several international research institutions such as Wistar Institute Philadelphia, University of Queensland, etc.
