Abdul Ghani Ansari, Final Year B. Arch student from School of Design & Architecture, Manipal University, Dubai won the 2016 Marina Design Star and a career-defining three-month internship at the Schwitzke Group's headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany. Marina Home organised the university challenge in its second edition this year which was inspired by design and innovation. The participants reimagined the canvas product in their own vision and reconstructed it with creativity and excellence. The internship will be all-expenses paid opportunity to provide with first-hand experience into the day-to-day workings of real projects and international clients, a chance to learn on the job and a gain a notable connect to the industry. Abdul Ghani will be working across all disciplines at the Group offices – including Schwitzke Graphics, Schwitzke & Partner and Schwitzke Project.

Abdul's design for the remake was titled, ‘reunion’ to rebond the strong connection of the furniture with users. It has 3 layers of design that combine a classic look, and aability to generate electricity for charging smart phones with a sporting activity.

The top ten entries were shortlisted with participants from Heriot Watt University, Dubai, American University in Dubai, Zayed University,Dubai and Manipal University, Dubai.
