The School of Humanities and Social Sciences recently organized an outstanding conference for school students titled "PsychED - A Psychology Conference: School Edition.

 

Held on 31st May 2022, PsychED aimed to promote academic discussions and fun quizzes around psychology, encouraging a scholarly and competitive spirit amongst students. School students from across the UAE participated in this conference, making it a great success.

The conference consisted of two events, a Roundtable Conference, and a Psychology Quiz, called 'Lobotomy.' The Roundtable Conference, moderated by Ms. Eliza Hatoum, a practicing Psychologist and Lifecoach, Founder of 'The New Me,' was themed 'Are we doing enough for mental health?'.

 

Thirteen student delegates participated in this discussion, identifying the most pressing challenges to mental health, and brainstorming creative solutions to address these challenges. The panel was insightful and thought-provoking, encouraging students to reflect on their roles in promoting mental health in their communities. Aumkar Misra from Our Own English High School (Boys), Sharjah, was selected as the Best Delegate.

The second event, the Psychology Quiz called 'Lobotomy,' had teams from ten schools. Quiz master Dr. Zakiya Ansari led the students through a series of fun and educative rounds that tested their knowledge of psychology. It was an exciting competition, and students enjoyed learning more about psychology. Team Alpha from Pristine Private School, Dubai, with Sirajam Muneera, Amal Nazir, and Fathima Hana, won the first prize, and team Psychedemics from The Westminster School, Dubai, with Tanvi Khire, Gazeena Akhtar, Jhian Bautista Samson came runner’s up.

Over the day, the students engaged in academic discussions, learned from experts in the field, and competed in a fun and challenging environment. PsychED 2022 provided unique opportunities for students to develop their skills and knowledge, and we look forward to more exciting events and opportunities to collaborate, learn and have fun in PsychED 2023.
