The Biggest Short Film Event in Dubai!
White Oryx International Short Film Festival (WOIS Film Fest) is an initiative by the School of Media & Communication (SoMC), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) - Dubai Campus, to create an opportunity to showcase, celebrate, and nurture the art and culture of filmmaking in the UAE. The festival has become a unique platform for creative minds not only in the UAE but also in the GCC region and internationally.
The event, launched in the year 2018, runs its course over three days; screening exemplary submissions handpicked by the team, all with the potential to impact lives. These submissions include entries from national and international students and amateurs. It ends with a grand award ceremony wherein the winners are presented with Golden Oryx Awards and special prizes from our esteemed sponsors.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic Covid-19, the 3rd edition of WOIS ran successfully for 3 days in December 2021, with the theme 'Sound in Cinema.' Mr. Daniel B George, the renowned music composer best known for his work on the film 'Andhadhun,' honored us by attending the event and also wrote the WOIS theme song, 'No Escape.'
But we are ALL SET! for the 4th edition of WOIS and preparations are underway. It is scheduled for May 2023, with a new student leadership, more energy, and more excitement. Everyone with a passion, interest, or love for the art of cinema can now submit their work.
